Tteokbokki is a popular Korean street food made with soft rice cakes in a spicy gochujang (Korean chili paste) sauce. It is often served with fish cakes, cabbage, and hard-boiled eggs. Tteokbokki is a delicious and satisfying snack or appetizer, and it can also be enjoyed as a main course.
To make tteokbokki, you will need the following ingredients:
- 1 pound rice cakes
- 1 cup gochujang
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Fish cakes (optional)
- Cabbage (optional)
- Hard-boiled eggs (optional)
Instructions:
Cut the rice cakes into bite-sized pieces.
In a large bowl, combine the gochujang, water, sugar, fish sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Mix well.
Add the rice cakes to the sauce and stir to coat.
Transfer the rice cakes and sauce to a large skillet or pot.
Bring the sauce to a boil over medium heat.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-10 minutes, or until the rice cakes are soft and the sauce has thickened.
Stir in the fish cakes, cabbage, and hard-boiled eggs (if using).
Serve immediately and enjoy!
Pria's Tips:
For a spicier tteokbokki, add more gochujang to the sauce.
If you don't have gochujang, you can substitute another type of chili paste, such as sriracha or sambal oelek.
You can also add other vegetables to your tteokbokki, such as carrots, onions, or mushrooms.
Tteokbokki can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. However, the flavor will be best if enjoyed fresh.
